STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Being Part of a Group

As a student at EMS you will be given songs to learn that are within your ability, but sometimes might be a bit challenging.

The purpose of these song assignments is to help you improve your skills. You will be rehearsing these songs each week in your designated rehearsal session.
It is your responsibility to practice each song at home and be prepared to rehearse that song on the weekend. The weekend session is for REHEARSAL, not for PRACTICE. Most of the songs you are assigned will be available to you on You Tube and/or iTunes . If you don’t have access to a computer, please let us know and we will find another way for you to listen to your songs. Tabs are also available on the internet for you to print out. They are reminders of you how to play the song, and add one more tool to your toolbox! Knowing the name of the song and the artist is VERY important so when the instructor asks for the musicians who are on that song, you will be prompt in your response. This becomes important when performing as you have to KNOW when to go on stage. The order of songs is called a “set list” and bands make them before they go onstage so ALL the musicians know what to expect, or what to play next.
If you don’t know the name of the song, please ask your instructor, or group leader. If you need help with your song, you can ask your teacher to help you during your private lesson. Remember, practice will make playing easier. It’s like anything else, the more you do it, the better you get!

Note to Parents: If a student does not learn their song, they may have to be dropped from it. Please encourage them to practice!
